The new Intwine collection marks our seventh year of partnership with the Ethical Fashion Initiative. Our continued collaboration provides ongoing employment opportunities for artisans working in marginalised communities in Kenya, helping to build a more responsible global fashion industry.

The EFI is based around one concept: not charity, just work. Each collection is designed for the greatest social impact; giving artisans the opportunity to work on multiple projects that provide them with an income, as well as skills, training and development—empowering them to create a better life for themselves and their families.

The Intwine collection

Like all EFI collections, the Intwine collection was designed to showcase and celebrate the skills of the artisans who made it. Each piece was hand-crafted from locally sourced and grown materials including sisal, goat leather and cotton Kikoy.

The jewellery collection was beaded using traditional techniques, incorporated into modern designs. The bag collection utilised the weaving skills of over 500 women from the Taita region of Kenya, where weaving with sisal has been a traditional artisan skill for many years.

Our impact

All artisans commissioned for this collection improved their skills through on-the-job training, enabling them to pursue further employment opportunities. Their income has enabled them to provide for their families, pay school fees, invest in small business opportunities and, in lots of cases, save their portions of income.
