design: the button bag
The button has been integral to Mimco's brand identity since the early '00s, evolving across some of our most popular collections over the years.
First appearing on the cult-favourite 2005 Button Bag, it's a motif you know and love—and one we keep coming back to, time and again.
Now, in 2023, we've reimagined the iconic button motif with Flashback: an luxe pebble leather capsule featuring all-over branding that talks to our past with a modern twist.

THE DESIGN PROCESS
Our Melbourne-based design team took a walk through the Mimco archives, dating all the way back to 1996.
With the ubiquitous button motif, and fashion's Y2K revival at front of mind, Flashback's new all-over branding was born. Final sketches were brought to life after months of collaboration, planning and research.
The iconic pattern decorates a handful of it-shapes: from mini bowler bags to crossbodies, pouches and wristlets.
“ Inspired by a journey through the archives, we created Flashback as a playful nod to our heritage, with a future-fit lens. The all-over embroidered ‘X’ and ‘O’ design is quilted to give each bag a nostalgic tactile finish, while paying homage to the iconic Mimco button.

You know we had to make a vegan-friendly version, too! Crafted from lightweight, durable neoprene, each piece is debossed with the iconic ‘XO’ pattern, and comes with our new ‘est. 1996’ branded webbing strap.
