The "party season" is something we take very seriously at MIMCO; it's about dressing up after all!
Spring Racing is the calendar of events which kicks things off each year, and this season the pieces you'll be partying in are prettier than ever.
On the set of our recent Spring Racing campaign, we asked celebrity stylist Lana Wilkinson for her top tips around accessorising for the Spring Carnival ahead.
What are the key trends to look out for this year?
This season it’s all about metallics and jewel tones with a mix of monochrome. In terms of millinery…think boaters, crowns and turbans. When you’re styling your looks for the racing season, it’s all about the accessories – big earrings, sunglasses and headwear. More is more should be the approach.
What are your top tips for surviving the racing season?
1. Ensure you hair and makeup compliment your outfit, it’s so important.
2. Make sure your tan isn’t orange.
3. Make sure you wear inner soles (or carry them in your handbag) if you a prone to getting sore feet – a day at the races is a long one.
4. Hydrate and eat well – especially if it’s a warm day.
Describe your style in 3 words...
Classic with a modern and fashionable edge.
What’s your Spring Racing season style trademark?
A statement crown or millinery piece is my trademark. I’ve often used a lot of the designer pieces I love, on my clients, so for me, I make it about my millinery and accessories and choose to wear textured fabrics or bold colours.
If you’re buying one accessory for racing season, what is it?
A statement bag – whether it's a clutch or roomy shoulder bag, make sure you have this key accessory for the season.
What’s your ultimate accessory for the party season?
One of the great things about the Spring Racing season is that you get to play with lots of accessories in ways that you normally wouldn’t. It’s the one time of the year you get to really style the statement pieces, whether that’s a striking shoe, bold millinery or a fabulous bag. For me, it’s all three of those things that make or break a race day outfit.
What do you love most about your job?
I love making people feel and look like the best version of themselves. My job is about collaboration and working with a person’s own style and adding my twist. There’s no ‘I’ in team and I take the same approach when dressing my clients.
Who’s your dream client?
My dream client at the moment would be any of the Kardashian girls or perhaps Gigi Hadid. They are the style icons of our time and I think there style is limitless so from a creative perspective, it would be amazing to dress them.
