Behind the design: Customisation
9 Aug 2017
The story behind our new customisable bags and pouches: our leather bag designer, Sarah, wanted to celebrate individuality and femininity and so our Imagineer collection was born.
How did you go about translating our seasonal story of the Dreamscape Wanderer into the collection?
Dreamscape Wanderer is all about a surreal but utterly feminine feeling and this was easily translated into the range through the use of a soft palette and highly feminine details. Unexpected edge came through in the natural textures; pom poms created with leather loops, frills formed with soft leather, scalloped edges and 3D effects.
What were the inspirations behind the shapes and silhouettes?
For the bags I chose easy, everyday silhouettes with clever constructions so that they could easily be personalised. There is a huge trend for “mix and match” which inspired the charms, but I really wanted to link them to the inspiration of the main collection. The bow and flower charms really celebrate femininity.
How did you come up with the “customisation” concept?
We’re all unique and that should come through in our accessories. At MIMCO we truly value individuality and I wanted to celebrate that by giving our customers the freedom to build their own bags! This collection focuses on tactility, we want her to play and interact with the products while she creates her perfect piece.
Which tones did you focus on and why?
I focused on very femme colours – neutrals (balsa and pancake), orange sorbet and pinks – to keep all of the possible combinations really delicate.
Do you have a favourite piece?
My favourite piece is the Imagineer Mini Tote because it’s such a great everyday bag. And when you’re feeling more quirky, you can have a play with our customisation pieces to personalise it.
