HOW TO WEAR: CUSTOMISED BAGS
10 Aug 2017
You may only know Sophia Athas by her DIY alterego, Hatrik – the name under which she customises just about any piece of clothing – and in that case you've probably already fallen in love with her unique, creative spirit.
If not, this is your chance to.
Get to know Sophia (and her sister Chesca), as well as how she’s styled our new range of customisable bags and pouches.
Can you give us a little insight into your creative process?
I sometimes wish I was more structured with my creative process, but it sort of just happens when i’m in the mood to create and put pen to paper (or needle to thread). I’m always finding inspiration, pinning on Pinterest, reposting on Tumblr and scribbling notes down in my diary! A piece of work can change so much from start to finish, but that's what I love most about what I do!
What is the story behind the name Hatrik?
I started an instagram page a few years ago for all of my artwork and came up with ‘Hatrik’ because I wanted it to relate to three'. I’m lucky to have two sisters in my family (and 1 brother) and a ‘Hat Trick’ traditionally means ‘three of’ – so, there you go!!
What does a typical day look like for you?
I always get up early and start the morning with a walk and a coffee. I’m a huge list person, so ticking off my ‘to-do’s’ always keeps me on track – whether it’s completing custom denim orders, or designing new customised pieces. The process of customising and embellishing is super time consuming so when i’m in the studio a lot of my day is spent at the sewing machine in front of my sequins and beads and threads!!
What keeps you inspired?
My siblings. We are all super different, all creative, but in really different ways. I also love travelling, finding inspiration from new cities – I think when you’re in such a routine in your creative space at home you start to go around in circles and get a little fidgeting with work (and life!).
What is your favourite piece from our Customisation collection?
I love the collection, the idea of swapping, changing and designing your own bag from your bedroom is really epic. I think for me it's the Imagineer Petite Tote.
I love all of the different straps and leather button details.
And now for something completely different…Collage fun by Sophia Athas.
