Last year, we launched the first ever MIMCO Design Project; an open call to re-imagine our iconic MIMCO Button Bag. Nikki Flux answered that call (in quite spectacular fashion might we add) with a cult classic design you may be familiar with…the State of Flux Bag.

As we prepare to launch an all new MIMCO Design Project (stay tuned!), we asked Nikki what winning the Project has taught her.

From sketch to store: our State of Flux Bag.

The State of Flux Bag has truly (and quickly) become a new MIMCO icon…what was your initial reaction when you heard your design had sold out shortly after its release in February, 2016?
I was so happy to hear the State of Flux sold so well, especially being a bit different from the rest of the collection or from what has been in them previously. It blows me away! To be cemented into the MIMCO history the way it has... I'm happier and more proud than words could say.

What has been the most incredible part of winning the MIMCO Design Project?
I've said a few times it still doesn't feel real. It's such an amazing feeling to know I've designed something that speaks to so many women. Winning the MIMCO Design Project opened doors to many opportunities for me.

What have you learnt from winning the MIMCO Design Project?
I think the major thing I learned was to be fearless. I come from a graphic design/illustrative background and if I'd let those skills box me in, I wouldn't have entered the competition. You don't get anything if you don't try.

What advice would you give other designers entering the comp this time around?
One of the biggest pieces of advice I could give would be is to know what you like, but also understand what MIMCO stands for. Take inspiration from these things and put your own spin on it.
