Weekend getaway

When the opportunity for a long(ish) weekend arises, here at MIMCO we take advantage of getting our culture (and maybe cocktail) fix while we can. Here’s our list of what to do, see and of course wear for the long weekend ahead.

ANDY WARHOL AND AI WEIWEI AT NGV

Featuring two of the most influential and interesting artists of the Twentieth and
Twenty-first Century, this international exhibition explores the influence of Andy Warhol and Ai Weiwei on modern art and contemporary life. A sensory wonderland of over 300 works including 5 pieces from Ai Weiwei that have never been shown before.

Our pick: "Blossom 2015"; a stunning installation of a bed of thousands of delicate, intricately designed white porcelain flowers – we’re in!

Showing until April 24 at National Gallery Victoria.

WINE AND DINE AT HENTLEY FARM

As much as we love our city, there’s nothing quite like spending a weekend away from it all. Eating delicious food and drinking amazing wine just makes it all the more appealing. Enter Hentley Farm – literally the best winery in Australia (it recently took out Winery of the Year for 2015) – a small cellar door and restaurant set amongst the incredible Barossa Valley. Lunch, dinner or wine-tasting, this is the perfect way to max-relax on a long weekend.

ROTTNEST ISLAND

Enjoying the simple pleasures in life? We’re all for that. Rottnest Island offers some of the most beautiful beaches on Australia’s West Coast, with the entire island classified as an
A-class nature reserve. There are no public vehicles, so it's all pedalling power or long, relaxing walks to discover the incredible beaches, history and activities on offer.
Get to the island from Perth via ferry or plane...and if you are lucky enough, your own boat – anyone have a boat?
